Nayagi (English: Leading Lady) is a 2018 Tamil languagesoap opera starring Vidya Pradeep, Ambika and Dhilip Rayan. It also stars Leesha Eclairs, Vetrivelan, Meera Krishnan and Suresh Krishnamurthi. The show replaced Deivamagal and airs Monday to Saturday from 19 February 2018 in Sun TV. The show is produced by Vikatan Televistas Pvt Ltd and directed by S. Kumaran.

Synopsis
This story revolves around a domestic maid, Anandhi, who was daughter of a rich family, unknown to her. Anandhi's employer was the man who killed her family for money, also unknown to her. In the meanwhile, she marries Thiru, the son of her employer. Anandhi comes to know how her employer Kalivaradhan made his money.(but she doesn't know that she is the heir of that business empire) and Thiru too comes to know the real face of his father. Both Anandhi and Thiru stand against Kalivaradhan and helps the surviving wife of the business empire, to find her unknown heir. (Anandhi's mother, which is unknown to them)

Plot
The story revolves around Anandhi (Vidya Pradeep),the adopted daughter of Kathiresan and a hard working girl's life. She is shown as poor girl who works in a retail store where she befriends Kanmani, (Papri Ghosh)who later becomes her Best friend. She earns money by working in the store and by preparing tied flowers from a vendor. At times she takes money from her arrogant but kind lady who earns by usury interest, Sarkunam (Ambika). Anandhi's foster father Kathiresan (Udumalai Ravi) is a drunkard and often sells stuff from the house to drink, buying wrath from his biological son Muthu (Roshan) . Muthu loves his sister Anandhi a lot and gets angry on those who hurt her. Kanmani is the total opposite of Anandhi, being talkative and a Know-It-All type. Yet, she never let go of her best friend. Sarkunam is known by all in her area for being a terrifying lady. She is close to Anandhi and Kanmani's family. Her elder son Cezhiyan (Vetrivelan) is a nerd and is afraid to talk. But her younger son Gopi (Yogesh) is a spoilt brat and even marries his sister in law Sumathi (Anusai Elakeya) to be at his brother' wedding. Her younger's daughter Megala (Dharshana) good person. Now comes Kalivaradan (Suresh Krishnamurthi), an ultra-rich businessman, who is the main antagonist, is introduced as a terrifying as well as a greedy man to the plot. He is known for his amazing success in his business. Vasanthi, (Meera Krishna) Kalivaradhan's wife, is not fond of the lifestyle they are living and is often seen worrying about something . They have 2 children, Thirumurugan (Dhillip Rayan) and Anu (Pradeepa Muthu). Anu is a carefree girl and does not care about anything. But Thiru, is a kind young man, who engages in social services and other good deeds. He admires his father a lot and trusts him to a great extent,thinking that his father is a kind man.

Anandhi and Kanmani are amidst some confusion at their workplace, suspecting someone watching them change clothes. The culprit is shown as their supervisor, who takes videos of salesgirls changing clothes. The 2 friends bump into Thiru who came their for his friend's sister's sake, who was a victim of the supervisor's scam. Anandhi slaps Thiru, mistaking him for the supervisor's deeds and gets him arrested. After Thiru reveals his identity to the police, he comes out and looks for Anandhi. He sees her again fighting off Ranjith, (Devankumar) and his gang, Ranjith being her stalker. Thiru gets impressed by Anandhi's bravery and praises her, to again get insulted by her and Kanmani. He later follows them and seeks their help in capturing the supervisor, succeeding in the end. They get fired from the job. Meanwhile, Kathiresan is fired from his job, recommended by Sarkunam for creating a tantrum after getting drunk. Anandhi meets Sarkunam and apologises to her. This is where she meets Vasanthi for the first time, and it is also revealed that Vasanthi and Sarkunam are sisters, Sarkunam being the eldest. Vasanthi prays for a girl, whose life she saved 24 years ago, with only an identity of 3 moles behind the girl's ears. It is revealed that the posh lifestyle they are living is not her husband's success but its the property of their boss. Kalivarthan was an employee and he got jeaulous of the boss, in the end killing him, after the boss knew that he changed the property in his name while he was away. Kalivaradan also sends men to kill the boss's wife, while she is fully pregnant. Vasanthi is a kind lady and she saves the child, but unfortunately the lady dies. She runs with the child but meets one of the henchmen, Vadivelu, but he changes and leaves them alone. Vasanthi leaves the baby in a temple and sees the mole behind her ears, being the only identity. She throws a log in a pond distracting the henchmen. When she returns, the baby is gone and she has been looking for the baby ever since. It is revealed after the flashback that the baby is none other than Anandhi. Yet, no one knows this, including Anandhi herself. Kalivardhan somehow gets to know that the heir is alive from his Guruji, and plans to look for it. The Guruji also informs him that when the heir shows up, it would be the beginning for his destruction. Fearing, he asks his PA Perumal (Giridhar Thirumalachary) to look for Vadivelu, who lied to him long back that the baby died. Vasanthi asks Vadivelu to escape but Kalivaradhan's men catches him and shoots him. He hides in some bushes. Meanwhile, Kathiresan had sold the stove to drink again and Anandhi, together with Kanmani was going home at night with the new stove. Kanmani teases her with Thiru, both girls befriending him, to which Anandhi denies, yet having a crush on him. They encounter an injured Vadivelu and admits him to a hospital. The next day, they hear the story from Vadivelu, not knowing the names of the people involved. The girls also work in Kalivaradhan's office as helpers and Anandhi earns an instant dislike from Kalivaradhan, after spilling coffee on him.

Meanwhile, Kanmani and Cezhiyan fall in love. Kalivaradhan somehow gets to know about Vadivelu's whereabouts and Vasanthi informs him. He escapes from there and Vasanthi is caught by the men, while she was trying to clear Anandhi's address. Kalivaradhan starts to keep an eye on Vasanthi. It is revealed that Kathiresan and Vadivelu were friends. He takes shelter at Kathiresan's house and comes to know about Anandhi's true identity after seeing the mole and from Kathiresan. He calls Vasanthi and says that he found the girl, only to be interrupted by the henchmen. He goes into a coma. Meanwhile, Kathiresan falls ill and the hospital claims that they need to operate him, actually planning to take organs. Vasanthi helps Anandhi with the money and its revealed to Anandhi that Thiru is Vasanthi's son. Thiru finds out that the hospital is planning to take organs and saves Kathiresan. Anandhi falls for his kind nature and her crush deepens, unaware to Thiru. They become good friends. Thiru also helps Anandhi and her family, like helping her Muthu, by sponsoring his cricket training at a big academy. Meanwhile, Kanmani and Cezhiyan break up after Cezhiyan says he is afraid to talk to Sarkunam about his love. Sarkunam arranges to meet a girl who is cunning behind. Kanmani also gets into an argument with Anu, which ends in Anandhi slapping her. Anu vows to avenge them. It is now clear that Anandhi is in love with Thiru but fearing his dad, she asks him to promise her that he would never propose her, with heavy heart. Thiru also lies to her that he would not go overseas but is still going, fearing that he would lose Anandhi's friendship. His friends tell him that he is in love her but he denies it. Anandhi starts working at Vasanthi's home and realises Thiru had lied to her. She feels disappointed confronts Thiru about the same. Without letting Thiru talk, she says that the relationship between them is just a boss and employee one. Thiru, starts to get more impressed by her. That night, Anandhi feels comfortable with Thiru, after he praises her for the food she prepared. She goes home and gets shocked to see Ranjith there, after her father had allowed him to marry Anandhi, when Ranjith says he would by him drink. After Kathiresan gets flattened, Ranjith harasses her to which Anandhi beats him with slipper and closes the door, after she chased him out. He vows to rape her that night, leaving her and Muthu a sleepless night. The next day, she gets kidnapped by Ranjith and he prepares to marry her in one of his guest house. His brother who is a counsellor, helps him. Muthu informs Kanmani and Kanmani informs Vasanthi. Vasanthi asks Thiru to help her. Thiru, with the help of the police, tracks them down. They witness Anandhi stabbing Ranjith in self-defence. She is arrested but Thiru brings her out with his influence. He says that he would be always supportive of her, making Anandhi happy. He brings her to her home and Vasanthi consoles her. Kanmani sees her not listening to Vasanthi, but looking at Thiru outside thus, clearly showing that Anandhi is in love with Thiru. The next day when Anandhi come to work, she and Thiru get closer. Thiru wears formals and impresses Anandhi after she tells him that formals would look good on him. Kalivaradhan says he does not approve Anandhi smiling and talking with Thiru, resulting in her distancing herself from Thiru. Kalivaradhan afterwards beats up Vasanthi after she challenges him that she will not be able to find the heir. Anandhi listens to their conversation and saves Vasanthi before Kalivarthan could kill her. She nurses her, while having a small talk. Anandhi promises she would never leave her, after Vasanthi request her. Thiru comes home and gets shocked to hear Anandhi calling him 'Sir' instead of Thiru, like she usually does. Anandhi remembering Kalivaradhan's warning, does so. Thiru fakes suicide to make Anandhi talk, after he finds out that his father said something. Anandhi panics, which shows her love for him. Thiru also smile looking at her care.

Kanmani finds out that Suhasini,(Sowmiya Ravindran) the bride for Cezhiyan, is cunning. She warns Cezhiyan but to no use. She asks her parents to tell Sarkunam but Suhasini puts up a drama at her in laws. Meanwhile, Thiru has a gathering with his friends, and his friends advises him to talk to Anandhi about his feelings. Thiru, denying at first, later admits that he too is in love with Anandhi. Muthu goes missing after his father accuses him that Anandhi is still single because of him. Sarkunam and Kanmani helps her. Kanmani convinces Anandhi to seek help from Thiru. They go to their house, to find Muthu sleeping in the platform. They bring him home and Muthu tells her that she went to see Thiru and tell him that Anandhi loves him. Kanmani admits she spoke to her sister about their feeling for each other, which Muthu should have eavesdropped. Later she convinces Anandhi to propose to Thiru if she truly loves him. Anandhi claims she loves him too and prepares to propose to him the next day itself. Kalivardhan's business stumbles and the Guruji tells him to quickly find the heir. He finds out its a girl from Vasanthi by his own ways. His Canada business partner breaks with him after realising that Kalivarthan is unable to get loan from banks. Kalivarthan seeks help from a minister Duraiyarasan (Ashok Pandian) for the money. The minister Duraiyarasan has a daughter, Ananya (Sushma Nair) who is an intruder in Thiru and Anandhi's love life. She is a childhood friend of Thiru. She wants to marry him. So Kalivaradhan and Duraiyarasan join together and try to pull Thiru from Anandhi. But Anandhi doesn't fear of their power and she vow that she will marry Thiru . Thiru listens to his father and he accepts to marry Ananya. As expected by Kalivarathan,Thiru avoids Anandhi. Anandhi says that she will prove his father's true face but in return she gets a slap from Thiru. Thiru's friends too tell him about his father, but Thiru believes none of them.On the meantime, Vasanti tries to tell Thiru how worst his father is. But she is stopped by Kalivaradhan and Anu.

Episodes go on as Anandhi tries to prove against Kalivaradhan. Anandhi finds a pendrive which contain the voice record of Vasanti, in which she exposed Kalivarathan's true face.She tries to play it for Thiru but she is stopped by Kalivarathan. Kalivarathan tries many ways like blackmailing Anandhi to marry with Ranjith,trying to kill her etc., But Anandhi escapes from all of his plans. At the final moment of Thiru and Ananya's marriage,the pendrive is played and Thiru comes to know everything and he also feel sorry to Anandhi for mistaking her. He speaks against his father ans both Thiru and Anandhi unite and leave that place. So Ananya tries to kill herself but is saved.

Kalivaradhan and Duraiyarasan still plans to stop Thiru Ananthi marriage. But this time,Sargunam stands with the couple,against Kalivaradhan. Anandhi and Thiru gets married and Ananaya is shocked about this. Cheziyan's Ex-fiancée Suhasini started a new plan to separated Kanmani and Cheziyan with the help of Gopi. Kanmani and Sumathi finds out the plan Kanmani started a fake role she as pregnant. But Gopi and Suhasini find out the truth about Kanmani they try to tell to everybody kanmani as fake pregnant but it fail.

Thiru discovers the Leelavathi's daughter is Anandhi. Ananya and Kalivaradhan started a new plan to kill Anandhi with hitting ball to Anandhi's head but when Thiru tries to tell the truth to Anandhi the ball hits thiru's head mistakenly and Thiru faints. Thiru's parents went to America to Thiru's surgery. Surgery was successful but Thiru lost his memories. Anandhi gets pregnant. Now Thiru saves Ananthi from Ranjith and bring her to his home to stay. Kalivaradhan, Ananya and Anu get shock about this. Anu gets electructed and she has the same blood group as Anandhi but she refused give it because she is pregnant . Soon Vasanthi find out Anandhi is pregnant. Anu and Ananya started a new plan with the help of Anu's male friends to show to Thiru Anandhi have relationship with some boys. During Anu's male friends home which Anu and Ananya attend a hidden camera records Anu removing her clothes in the bathroom. The culprit, Anu's friends. Nevertheless, Anu's male friends was blackmail and send photos to Anandhi which she has relationship with some boys. She comes to the hotel which he told. He tries to molest Anandhi. Beside the room Anu's friend comes to blackmail Anu for sexual favors. Anandhi beats them up with the help of Thiru and saves Anu. Anandhi then gave a complaint to police. Police arrested them. Vasanthi and Kalivaradhan get shocked about this.Anandi advises Anu and won Anu's hearts.Anu herself said Ananya that she will stand on neither of both Ananya and Ananthi side.

In the meantime,Ananya comes to know about Kanmani's fake pregnancy through Suhasini. She blackmails Kanmani's doctor and records in the phone when doctor tells truth Kanmani is not pregnant. Ananya started blackmail Kanmani and Anandhi about Kanmani's fake pregnancy role. Anandhi makes a plan to escape from Ananya. Kanmani, Sumathi, Sigamani,Sarala and few some doctors play a drama such that Kanmani undergone abortion by falling from stairs to make Sargunam believe it. Anandhi's plan was successful.

Though Kanmani succeeded her plan, Suhasini makes another plan in which Cheziyan and she herself just act in front of Kanmani that they are behaving so intrigue,so that Kanmani would get away from their house. Cheziyan and Suhasini announced they are going a trip for Bangalore for Suhasini's job interview. But they stay in two separate rooms in Chennai. They made this plan only to make Kanmani feel her husband's and Suhasini's relationship would grow big. Kanmani couldn't bear this and she exits the house saying that she is going to her house for 4 days but she questions ferociously Cheziyan before leaving. Cheziyan seems to change his mind as he couldn't answer Kanmani's questions. But he doesn't know what to do and dropped Kanmani in her house. During work, Cheziyan thinks of Kanmani and thinks he made mistake. In the meantime, Suhasini arrives at his work place. Cheziyan exposes his mistakes to Suhasini, but she was unhappy as her plan was totally spoiled. So, she soughts the help of Ranjit's elder brother, the counselor. She made a plan to kidnap Kanmani.

In the meantime, Ananya made a drama by walking on shoe of nails in a religious place to make Thiru believe that she is loving her. Thiru couldn't express anything after seeing her blood. He requests Ananya a day for his decision and he approached Anandhi to advise him. But Ananthi couldn't speak a word. So, Thiru made Ananthi to choose a choice of two papers in a temple (religious place), one written as ' Marry Ananya' and the other as 'Don't marry Ananya. Anandhi prays much before Thiru takes one of those folded papers from her hand. Thiru takes the paper which was written 'Marry Ananya' . This made a huge shock to Anandhi, Vasanthi and Kanmani, who were present there. Thiru conveys his message to Ananya and she hugs him in return. The date of their engagement was scheduled.

In the meantime, Thiru's pills (which was changed by Ananya into normal Vitamin pills) for memory regaining falls into a bucket of ditch water. So, Permual bought new pills (the original ones for memory regaining). Ananya arrives Thiru's home and shocks to see this. Anandhi doubts her shock, thinking that there might a plan behind it. The next day, Ananya comes to Thiru's home with her parents to arrange their marriage in the date of their engagement, as she is feared that Thiru will regain his memories. Thiru agrees it, and Ananya is so happy and the opposite is of Anandhi.

Kalivaradhan finds out the truth Anandhi is a pregnant by the pills that Ananthi was taking. Ananya and family plans to show Anandhi get cheated by a man. Anandhi refused to tell who is the reason of pregnant to Thiru. Thiru send her out from his home. Meanwhile Suhashini was showed away as her plans were exposed by one of her witnesses. Sargunam send her from home.Now Anandhi made Sandhya to record Annaya but whereas Suhashini put a plan to kill Cezhiyan and where now Thiru saw Ananya real image and now he is feeling not to marry.

Now while the marriage is happening M.Koothirapan and Sigmani chucked a stone on Thiru head and he was hospitalized and then Ananya get shocked she was chocked and he says ' I need to see Anandhi' then he see Anandhi without bindi and hug and pray.

Actress Vidya Pradeep landed in lead Female role and was selected to portray the role of Anandhi after the exit of Vijayalakshmi. ^[1]Sun TV Anchor Dhilip Rayan landed in lead male role of Thirumurugan. They are making their debuts with the series. Actress Ambika was selected to portray the role of Sarkunam. She made her comeback after Sare Gama Gama Gama (2013-2014) Serial. Malayalam Actress Meera Krishnan was selected to play as Vasanthi who has appeared in Director Thiruselvam Tamil serial likes Pokkisham (2012-2013) which was aired on Kalaignar TV.^[2]

On 10 February 2018, the first promo of Ambika's 'Naayagi Teaser : Sarkunam' was released by Vikatan TV on YouTube.^[3] On 10 February 2018, the second lead female, On 13 February 2018 third (Kalivardhan) and 14 February 2018 fourth (Meera Krishnan) promos of the show was released by Vikatan TV YouTube channel and Sun TV.
