We're currently working hard on the next version, 5.0. The mod does have ww1 skins, within the limitations of vanilla ntw models, but in 5.0 we will be adding our own models and custom textures, and thus will be much more realistic. The next preview is planned for this week.Has this mod been updated at all?

Have you got the game. To be honest mate i would wait for 5.0 to come out anyways there will be tanks and new ship designs, new weapons and all that. 4.5 and 4.6 version of it aint great - edited August 2012

The Great War mod is the best thing ever.
One interesting thing is the flow of trench warfare into more mobile warfare which is carried out pretty well. As France I made a naval landing in Holstein and pushed out nearly to Berlin before the Germans put up a good resistance. That front oscillated back and forth for a good two years before I gained the upper hand; I was pushed back when the Germans committed to a defense and was able to push forward when I stopped advancing and they returned their troops to Alsace-Lorraine, Serbia or Russia. This is largely an issue with the AI (I probably could've been pushed all the way back to Holstein and wiped if the Germans felt like it) but still led to a really interesting situation and something completely unlike the stalemate to the west.
I like the Balkan thing. I especially like that the Balkan states can hold their own. Serbia and Bulgaria had well upwards of 30 divisions each in my games and used their tiny, beleaguered armies to terrifying effect when it came to holding back the Ottomans, each other, and the Austro-Hungarian juggernaut. In my first France game Greece and Serbia joined forces with only a dozen of my own divisions and pushed Austria-Hungary all the way back to Budapest with relative ease. Buffing the Balkan states was a fantastic way to add flavor to the game. My largest gripe is that many countries, particularly Bulgaria, have no way to increase their manpower through foci. This can be ludicrously frustrating especially when countries like France and A-H can grab a free 5-10% through foci alone. Since industry - and therefore the size of armies worldwide - has been massively buffed (this isn't an issue and it actually makes the game way more exciting), I feel like manpower in nations around the world ought to receive a similar buff. On a similar note, I noticed that Southern Bulgaria isn't actually a core of Bulgaria, which might be part of the manpower issue.
Hoi4 Great War Mod Russian Revolution
My largest problem with the mod is that the war never seems to start - that is, the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand just doesn't happen. I've played 2 A-H games, 2 Bulgaria games and 3 France games and in none of them did the war actually start in 1914. In every France game I had to use the focus tree to start the war and even then I wasn't able to do so until well into 1915; the other countries can't start the war through a national focus so I was stuck and unable to utilize all of the buildup I'd done. That was why I switched to France in the first place. Even savescumming (going back and replaying May-July 1914) didn't seem to result in the war breaking out. I guess I'd recommend increasing the probability of the assassination occurring even though it's somewhat railroady.
